Nissan Motors Co. tells reporters it will add eight all-electric models to its lineup in a bid to hike its annual sales of hybrid and EVs to 1 million units by 2022.
The initiatives are part of M.O.V.E., Nissan’s midterm strategic plan to expand revenue nearly 30% to 16.5 trillion yen ($157 billion) and reach a sustainable 8% profit margin.
By 2022, all new Nissan, Datsun and Infiniti brand vehicles will be equipped with connectivity technology, according to the company. In the same timeframe, the carmaker intends to debut 20 models with its ProPilot semi-autonomous-driving system in 20 markets.
Nissan has sold about 300,000 Leaf all-electric sedans since introducing the car eight years ago. The company predicts electrified models will generate 40% of Nissan brand sales in Japan and Europe by 2022 and 50% by 2025. Those ratios are projected to reach as much as 30% in the U.S. and 40% in China by 2025.
Nissan says half of global sales by its Infiniti luxury brand will be electrified by 2025. Many of the company’s electrified models will be equipped with Nissan’s new e-Power extended-range hybrid powertrain. The technology was introduced in Japan last year.
