The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it will hold an informal meeting in Washington on May 18 to discuss the safety of automotive lithium-ion batteries.
NHTSA says the symposium at the Dept. of Transportation will include a presentation about the agency's current research on lithium-ion batteries and EVs, plus reports from the U.S. Dept. of Energy, groups setting voluntary standards and representatives of vehicle and battery manufacturers.
The main purpose of the meeting will be to help the NHTSA focus safety research and development about EV safety, according to the agency.
