Fiat Chrysler Automobile NV's tentative new contract with the United Auto Workers union would raise the hourly wage cap on tier-two employees to $29 from the $25 rejected by workers last week, sources tell Bloomberg News. The current cap is $19.28.
But the new accord still fails to set a limit on how many workers FCA can hire at the lower wage rate, according to Bloomberg's sources. About 45% of Chrysler's workers are tier-two employees, the highest ratio among the traditional American brand carmakers.
As in last week's rejected agreement, the new offer would enable senior tier-one workers to earn nearly $30 per hour in base pay compared with about $28 under the contract that expired on Sept. 14. Details of the new proposed deal will be presented to the leaders of the UAW Chrysler locals on Friday.
