Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk says the company will unveil its upcoming electric pickup truck later this year.

Musk also tweeted a darkened and unidentifiable teaser image (right) of the vehicle, which he says will have a futuristic “cyberpunk” design. The outspoken CEO previously has claimed the new electric truck will be able to drive as far as 500 miles between charges and outperform the top-selling Ford F-150 fullsize pickup, while costing less than $50,000.
Ford plans to launch an electric variant of the F-150 in coming years. Last week, the carmaker demonstrated a prototype of the EV towing rail cars weighing more than 1.2 million lbs.
