Daimler AG’s Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus unit aims to offer an all-electric truck by 2021 whose batteries can be fully charged in only five minutes, according to The Nikkei.
The fast-charge system is being developed by Daimler and StoreDot Ltd., an Israeli startup in which the German carmaker became a major investor in March. StoreDot’s FlashBattery technology will be adapted to the eCanter electric delivery van.
Mitsubishi Fuso began marketing the eCanter in Japan in May and in the U.S. two months ago. That model, which has a load capacity of 3.5 tons, takes at least 90 minutes to charge.
