Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has told its U.S. dealers that the company followed correct test procedures to estimate fuel economy for its 2013-2017 models, Automotive News reports.
The newspaper cites a letter to dealers from Don Swearingen, chief operating officer for MMC’s North American operations that says an MMC internal audit confirmed results conform with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency procedures.
MMC revealed on Tuesday that it has been using the wrong test method since 1991 to calculate fuel economy ratings for some of its models sold in Japan. The disclosure prompted EPA and California Air Resources Board to request that MMC report on its test methods for U.S.-bound vehicles.
Both agencies also have ordered MMC to perform new tests for future MMC models to ensure compliance.
