Ride-hailing service Lyft Inc. has hired Jon McNeill, formerly president of global sales and service at Tesla Inc., to be its chief operating officer.
McNeill succeeds Rex Tibbens, who left late last year after helping the San Francisco-based company more than double the number of rides provided in 2017.
Tesla says McNeill’s previous job won’t be filled. Instead, the company’s worldwide sales and service unit will report directly to CEO Elon Musk.
Bloomberg News notes that Tesla plans to eventually launch its own ride-hailing service with a fleet of self-driving vehicles. Musk envisions owners of Tesla’s electric cars opting to allow their vehicles to be operated autonomously from time to time to provide ride-sharing service.
