Lotus Readies Lighter, More Nimble Evora

Group Lotus plc says its new Evora Sport 410 sports car is 154 lbs lighter than the outgoing Evora 400.
The savings come from a variety of carbon fiber components, including the front splitter, roof panel and rear diffuser. In addition, the previous five-piece tailgate has been integrated into a single unit, while the door trim panels have been replaced with lighter parts.
The weight reduction enabled Lotus to recalibrate the suspension, improving geometry and lowering ride height slightly. The result is sharper handling, with better body and roll control.
The Evora Sport's 3.5-liter supercharged V-6 engine has been re-tuned to deliver 410 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque. With a curb weight of 2,920 lbs, the rear-wheel-drive car has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 0.14 (one horsepower per 7 lbs). Lotus says the two-seater can race from zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds with its standard manual gearbox and in 4.1 seconds with an optional automatic.
Production of the Evora Sport 410 will be limited to 150 units worldwide. Sales will begin this summer.
