Lambo Opens Composites Center in Seattle

Lamborghini SpA has opened a new carbon fiber research facility in Seattle.
The so called Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory is the carmaker’s second such facility, joining one that Lamborghini opened in its hometown of Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, in 2010. Lamborghini will partner with Boeing Co. at the Seattle lab on material technology that can be used in both automotive and aerospace applications.
The carmaker, which first used carbon fiber reinforced polymers in the 1986 Countach Quattrovalvole supercar, introduced its patented forged composite material as a structural component on the Sesto Elemento in 2010. Lamborghini says the technology reduces the production time required to form components compared with traditional techniques.
In February Lamborghini introduced the carbon fiber-bodied Centenario (pictured) at the Geneva auto show.
