Prosecutors in South Korea have arrested a Volkswagen AG executive in connection with diesel-powered vehicles the company rigged to cheat emission standards. He is identified only by the surname Yoon.
The court warrant accuses him of violating the country’s air quality law and fabricating documents. Two weeks ago prosecutors claimed VW falsified emission and noise tests for 26 imported models. The company sold about 68,000 imported Audi and VW brand vehicles in Korea in 2015.
Korea’s Fair Trade Commission told reporters earlier this week it plans to levy a fine of 88 billion-yuan ($76 million) against VW for falsely promoting its diesels as “green” cars.
