Jaguar Land Rover Ltd.’s new InMotion mobility services division is developing a portfolio of smartphone app-based services and plans to launch a vehicle-sharing business.
The London-based unit is conducting market research now to identify viable products, the Financial Times reports. JLR says the unit then will form joint ventures to implement programs. Over the past nine months InMotion has evaluated 10 concepts, including a car-share scheme.
Among the likely products will be a variety of fee-based services offered initially to Jaguar and Land Rover owners worldwide but eventually for virtually any vehicle owner. The services won’t be linked to any in-vehicle hardware and thus will be available to virtually any vehicle owner, according to the FT.
InMotion also has developed a special insurance product needed for the future sharing service, the newspaper reports. The unit plans to debut the coverage plan within a few weeks and roll out a ride-share service later, according to the newspaper.
