Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling about 32,300 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs to replace a faulty shifter assembly that could disable the vehicle by locking the transmission in Park or Neutral when it comes to a stop.
The campaign affects only 2016 models. FCA blames the problem on an incorrectly made wire harness terminal made by a tier two supplier. The connect could come loose and suddenly cut off power to the brake transmission shift interlock solenoid.
The flaw was discovered at the assembly plant, and there are no reports of accidents or injuries. Dealers will replace the shifter assembly when the recall begins at the end of this week.
