Tata Motors Ltd.'s Jaguar Land Rover unit plans to add more than 1,100 people to the workforce at its Castle Bromwich assembly plant near Birmingham, England, to help build the next-generation XF and XJ model ranges.
The company has said it plans to introduce the XF Sportbrake sedan in the fourth quarter of this year and the F-Type roaster in mid-2103.
The Daily Telegraph reported in May that the company was spending 200 million (€255 million) to retool the facility for the new models and expand capacity 50% to an unspecified level. Jaguar has not disclosed the size of the investment or capacity increase.
Workers at the factory voted last week to accept new work rules to increase efficiency in exchange for Jaguar's commitment to build the new models. The facility now produces the XK coupe and convertible and the current-generation XF midsize sport sedan and XJ luxury sedan.
JLR has been on a hiring spree in the U.K. as sales jumped 19% to more than 29,000 in the first six months of 2012. The company boosted output of the Range Rover Evoque SUV at its assembly plant in Halewood, England, this year by increasing the workforce there by one-third to more that 4,000 people.
