A report by Italy’s transport ministry into diesel emission cheating omitted key test results for Fiat Chrysler Automobile NV models, Reuters reports.
Last year the ministry collected test data for an array of diesel cars made by BMW, FCA, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Volkswagen.
But the ministry’s own report shows that all seven of the FCA models reviewed lacked results of a test administered for the others that adjusts the standard New European Driving Cycle test for urban driving, according to Reuters. Three of the seven FCA vehicles also weren’t measured for on-road emissions.
Reuters adds that the FCA tests were conducted by FCA ‘s own labs in Italy under the supervision of the country's transport ministry. Results of tests for the four other carmakers came from independently operated facilities.
The disclosure comes as the European Parliament prepares to review proposed changes that would tighten emission test procedures and give the European Commission power to review the test results from member countries. Vehicles currently are certified for the EU by a manufacturer’s home country, which has sole power to revoke the authorization.
