BMW AG is using its iNext electric SUV/crossover concept to showcase advanced mobility technologies being developed by the company.

The vehicle is expected to become the flagship for BMW’s i-series EVs when it debuts in about 2021. The concept will be unveiled publicly at the Los Angeles auto show at the end of November.

The iNext succeeds the zoomy Vison Next 100 electric sedan concept BMW presented two years ago. The switch from car to crossover reflects the sharp swing in consumer buying preferences worldwide.

The concept features a high hood adorned with a “butterfly” interpretation of BMW’s traditional twin-kidney grille and extremely narrow head and tail lamps. An elongated variation of the grille design frames the side windows.

BMW says the car will be propelled by a fifth-generation powertrain and deliver a driving range of at least 600 km (370 miles) per charge.
