Hertz Launches Subscription Service Plan

Rental car giant Hertz Global Holdings Inc. has begun testing a subscription service in Georgia and Texas.
Dubbed Hertz My Car, the program bundles lease payments, insurance and maintenance into a single monthly price. Users can swap vehicles within their plan twice per month.
Participants have to pay a one-time membership fee of $250. The base plan costs $1,000 per month plus taxes, which gives members access to a range of small SUV/crossover vehicles, small trucks and fullsize sedans. For another $400 per month, the premium package adds regular-sized SUVs, large trucks and luxury sedans to the available fleet.
Vehicles need to be picked up and dropped off at participating locations near Atlanta and Austin. Travel is capped at 2,000 miles per month and is limited to trips within the U.S.
To join the program, consumers must be Hertz Gold Rewards Plus members and pass credit checks.
Rival rental car company Enterprise Holdings Inc. began testing its own subscription service earlier this year. Carmakers and dealerships have been testing subscription plans for several years with varying levels of success.
