GM to Phase Out Oshawa Production Line
General Motors Co. says it will begin phasing out one of its two assembly lines at its Oshawa, Ont., complex in the fourth quarter.
General Motors Co. says it will begin phasing out one of its two assembly lines at its Oshawa, Ont., complex in the fourth quarter. GM plans to shut down the line entirely a year from now.
GM told the Canadian Auto Workers union earlier today that one of three shifts will be dropped late this year on the line that produces Chevrolet Impala sedans and Equinox crossovers.
A second shift will be eliminated in the first quarter of next year before the line is idled when current-generation Impala production ends next summer.
Oshawa's second assembly line makes the Chevy Camaro sport coupe and convertible, Buick Regal sedan and Cadillac XTS large luxury sedan. Reuters says that line will add the next-generation Impala in 2013.
