General Motors Co. is dramatically expanding Cruise Automation Inc., the software company it acquired a year ago to develop and test self-driving-vehicle technologies.
GM expects to complete a $14 million r&d facility in San Francisco for the company that will more than double its existing research space by the end of this year. The facility also will become Cruse Automation’s new headquarters and is expected to add more than 1,100 people over the following five years.
The companies are testing several dozen autonomous Chevrolet Bolt electric sedans on public roadways in metro Detroit; San Francisco; and Scottsdale, Ariz.
