General Motors Co. says it is offering buyouts to an undisclosed number of hourly workers at its assembly plant in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, according to the local union. The company did not disclose buyout terms.
GM says the buyouts are intended to reduce structural costs to enable the company to maintain its current production plan. GM cites intense competition in the Brazilian market and rising costs for labor and raw materials.
