GM Commits $245 Million for All-New Vehicle Project
General Motors Co. says it will invest $245 million over the next 3-4 years to prepare its Orion Assembly plant in Michigan to build a vehicle unlike anything the company has produced before.

General Motors Co. says it will invest $245 million over the next 3-4 years to prepare its Orion Assembly plant in Michigan to build a vehicle unlike anything the company has produced before.
GM declines to offer any other specifics except to say it will hire about 300 workers when the new vehicle gets closer to an expected launch in about 2018.
But GM describes the Orion plant, which was reopened in 2010, as a "breeding ground for manufacturing innovation." Some observers speculate the new model will be powered by a fuel cell.
GM currently is spending $160 million to prepare the Orion facility to make Chevrolet's upcoming all-electric Bolt five-door hatch. Reports say that car will go into production at the end of 2016.
