GM Begins Testing Second-Gen Self-Driving Chevy Bolts

General Motors Co. has built 130 Chevrolet Bolt electric cars with autonomous driving capabilities at its plant in Orion Township, Mich. The carmaker claims to be the first to build self-driving vehicles at a mass-production facility.
GM is testing the second-generation models (with onboard backup drivers) on public roads in San Francisco, and it plans to expand the program to Michigan and Arizona later this year. GM began testing first-generation versions of the self-driving Bolts more than year ago.
Production of the second-generation automated Bolts—which include lidar, video cameras and more than 40 other sensors and other hardware—began in January. GM unveiled the cars today during a media event at its Orion plant.
