General Motors will add a second shift and nearly double the hourly workforce at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to meet expected demand for the vehicles made there.
The factory is hiring now and will launch second-shift operations in early 2016.
The 30-year-old facility currently assembles the Chevrolet Impala large sedan, Malibu midsize sedan and Volt plug-in hybrid; and the Cadillac ELR electric coupe—all on the same assembly line. The plant will add production of the aluminum-intensive Cadillac CT6 large luxury sedan next spring.
