Nissan Motor Co. will need to build another assembly plant in North America within five years, says Automotive News.
CEO Carlos Ghosn says Nissan aims to boost its share of the U.S. auto market from 7.9% now to 10% by March 2017. When it does, he tells the newspaper, "We're going to need more capacity."
Nissan currently operates assembly plants in Canton, Mississippi; Smyrna, Tenn.; and Aguascalientes and Cuernavaca, Mexico. The company is erecting a second factory in Aguascalientes that is set to open late next year. Ghosn says that facility might make luxury vehicles for Nissan's Infiniti brands.
