Gestamp Triples Capacity in U.S. for VW Plant
Madrid-based Gestamp Automocion SA is spending $180 million (€161 million) to triple its metal stamping capacity for Volkswagen AG's assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Madrid-based Gestamp Automocion SA is spending $180 million (€161 million) to triple its metal stamping capacity for Volkswagen AG's assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Gestamp currently supplies the factory with body and structural stampings for the Passat sedan from a facility in Chattanooga. VW also buys stampings from shops in several states.
Gestamp's new facility will adjoin the VW plant, thus reducing transportation costs for the parts it makes. The factory will produce all exterior sheet metal and most structural stampings for the Passat. The new facility is expected to create more than 500 jobs.
