Germany Targets Porsche in Diesel Emission Probe

Germany’s transport ministry has ordered an investigation into whether V-6 diesel engines used by Porsche AG were rigged to evade nitrogen oxide emission tests.
The engines were sourced from Audi AG, which currently is under similar investigation. Both companies are part of Volkswagen AG.
The Porsche probe apparently was prompted by a report last Friday by Der Spiegel claiming that the V-6 diesel used in the Cayenne SUV emitted excessive NOx during real-world driving. The magazine’s evaluation was based on tests by TUV Nord, an independent testing group.
Porsche says the TUV tests aren’t “comprehensible” and don’t reflect such variables as ambient temperature, vehicle speed and engine load.
