German energy company E.ON SE and Danish e-mobility service provider Clever A/S are partnering to support electric cars across Europe with a network of ultra-fast charging stations.
The companies aim to place “several hundred” such facilities along major traffic corridors at intervals of 120-180 km (75-110 miles). The partners expect to install the first such station this year. They also plan to offer related services to EV owners.
The quick-charge stations initially will offer 150 kW of power, which the companies say could fully charge a battery capable of a 400-km range in as little as 20 minutes. The facilities will be upgradable to deliver 350 kW when the necessary technology to do so is developed.
E.ON and Clever caution the pace of installations will hinge upon funding, consumer demand for electrics and the arrival of next-generation EVs with longer range.
