FTC Joins U.S. Probe into VW Diesel Test Cheating

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission confirms it has joined the Dept. of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency in investigating Volkswagen’s efforts to cheat federal diesel engine emission tests.
The FTC investigates companies charged with deceptive advertising. Several state have already indicated they are pursuing lawsuits claiming VW deceived consumers by claiming its rigged diesels were environmentally “green.”
Last month the EPA said affected VW diesels in the U.S. emitted as much as 40 times the allowable level of nitrogen oxide, a smog-forming gas linked to respiratory ailments.
