Ford Motor Co. has agreed to invest $5 million in the American Center for Mobility test facility currently under construction outside Detroit.
The 500-acre complex in Ypsilanti Township between Detroit and Ann Arbor will provide low- and high-speed test tracks and zones that simulate urban, residential and commercial areas for four-season testing of connectivity and autonomous vehicle technologies.
The center, which will include offices and garage space for testing teams, plans to open for first-phase use in December.
Ford’s pledge bring ACM’s fundraising to $95 million and makes the carmaker one of the facility’s founders, along with Toyota Motor Corp. and AT&T.
