Ford Invests in 3-D Mapping Start-Up
Ford Motor Co. has joined four other investors to provide nearly $7 million in seed money for Albany, Calif.-based startup Civil Maps.
Ford Motor Co. has joined four other investors to provide nearly $7 million in seed money for Albany, Calif.-based startup Civil Maps. The company makes three-dimensional maps for use by self-driving vehicles.
Civil Maps, formed out of an incubator program at Stanford University, currently has 16 employees. The company says it uses artificial-intelligence software to create 3-D images from sensors in a way that is more efficient and uses less data than other approaches.
