Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV will test the Chinese market for its relaunched Alfa Romeo brand a year from now, says CEO Sergio Marchionne.
He tells reporters in Italy that FCA will introduce the new Alfa Giulia sedan in China early next year. The company had largely suspended plans for Alfa in China when the country’s economy cooled. Now he declares there is a “real, live market” there.
Separately, Marchionne confirmed that FCA’s Chrysler assembly plant in Belvidere, Ill., will be retooled to make Jeep Cherokee SUVs. The switch will come later this year when the replacement for the Jeep Compass and Patriot small SUVs currently assembled there launches in Toluca, Mexico.
