Chippenham, England-based CSA International Ltd.’s Dymag unit is launching a new carbon-composite wheel the company says is as much as 40% lighter than an equivalent aluminium alloy wheel of the same size.
The new wheel also provides a significant improvement in quality and performance over previous carbon-composite units, the company claims.
In addition, Dymag recently won a grant and loan from the UK’s Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative totalling £7.1 million ($11 million) to develop new manufacturing processes. The goal of the program is to reduce cycle times and costs to facilitate high-volume production.
Dymag, which specializes in lightweight wheels for motorcycles and race cars, introduced its first carbon-composite motorcycle wheel 20 years ago. The company launched its first carbon-carbon automotive wheel for street applications in the mid-2000s.
