Dow Chemical Co.'s automotive systems unit has opened laboratories in Europe and North America to help customers develop carbon fiber composite processing technology.
The facility in Freienbach, Switzerland, is set up to develop composite applications and joining systems. The 2,100-sq-ft lab includes a high-pressure resin transfer molding machine for prototype production and an adhesive training center.
The 5,000-sq-ft lab at Dow headquarters in Midland, Mich., focuses on long-fiber processing, preforming, compression molding and laminating. The facility is co-located with Dow's Materials Engineering Center and several corporate R&D units.
