Delphi Automotive plc and Transdev Group, a Paris-based consultancy and public transport provider, plan to jointly develop an automated mobility-on-demand shuttle service.
The partners will collaborate on upcoming pilot programs in France near Paris and Rouen to test the technology. Delphi says the program will provide “a clear path to commercializing” autonomous vehicle services worldwide.
The service will team Transdev’s universal routing technology and control software with the autonomous vehicle platform Delphi is developing with Mobileye NV. Several Delphi affiliates will contribute specialized technologies, including Control-Tec (real-time analytics), Movimento (over-the-air software updates) and Ottomatika (vehicle control software).
In Rouen, the partners will build on the autonomous mobility service Transdev launched earlier this year. Comprehensive testing will be done to evaluate dispatch, remote control-command software, various vehicle sensors and first-mile/last-mile logistics.
The second program will coordinate first-mile/last-mile mobility services with conventional rail stations within the new Paris-Saclay research and business campus on the outskirts of the French capital.
Transdev is 70% owned by Caisse des Depots, an investment arm of the French government. The other 30% is held by Veolia Environment SA, a French waste management company. Earlier this year Transdev announced a partnership with the Renault-Nissan Alliance to co-develop mobility services featuring driverless vehicles.
