Daimler AG has agreed with unions at its €1 billion Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Kecskemet, Hungary, to raise hourly wages 10% in each of the next two years, Reuters reports. The plant makes B-Class minivan and CLA small sport sedans.

Daimler and its unions have been negotiating the agreement, which covers about 4,000 workers, for months. The increases will take effect next April and in April 2018.

Reuters notes that the deal comes as Prime Minister Viktor Orban has agreed to boost minimum pay in Hungary 15% next year and another 8% in 2018. The government also will lower payroll taxes by 7% in each of the next two years and cut the corporate tax rate to 9% from 19%. Orban faces reelection in early 2018.
