Daimler AG and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. have agreed to co-develop and implement several connected-car technologies, including wireless chargers for cell phones and electric vehicles.

The companies say their first projects will involve services that use 3G/4G connectivity. They also will further develop Qualcomm's second-generation Halo EV charger, which uses induction rather than cables to charge the propulsion batteries in an EV or plug-in hybrid.

In addition, the companies will pursue the use of Qualcomm's in-car charger, called WiPower, in Mercedes-Benz cars. WiPower can wirelessly replenish the battery in specially equipped personal devices such as mobile phones and tablets.
