Germany’s Continental AG and China internet giant Baidu Inc. have signed a strategic agreement to collaborate on automated driving, connected vehicles and advanced mobility services.

The partners say they will use each other’s expertise in vehicle components and internet technology to develop technologies and new business models that employ artificial intelligence to create a “new ecosystem of intelligent mobility.”

Separately, Conti has reached a strategic agreement with NIO, a Chinese electric-car startup, to help develop vehicle platforms for the Shanghai-based company. The partners have collaborated since NIO was launched in 2014.

NIO is a participant in the Formula-e electric race car series. Conti will supply the company with such components as tires and an air suspension system for its first mass-produced car, the ES8, that is due in 2018.
