China has to date installed more than 1 million charging points for electric vehicles, China Daily reports.

The total consists of 412,000 publicly accessible outlets and 591,000 restricted locations, according to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance. The group says installations jumped by two-thirds in the past 12 months.

Still, 1 million charge points means each outlet must be shared by an average 3.5 plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicles. That ratio is far from ideal, China Daily says.

CEVCIPA is being funded by China’s central government to accelerate charge point installation by helping to better integrate and expand the country’s recharging infrastructure.
