The operators of the two largest electric vehicle charging networks in the U.S.—ChargePoint Inc. and Volkswagen AG’s Electrify America LLC unit—have agreed to let their members use each other’s charging stations.
The deal will give EV owners access to more than 30,000 Level 2 and DC fast chargers in the U.S. through a single membership and fee.
Such interoperability roaming agreements are considered a key enabler for widescale use of electrified vehicles. Last October, Electrify America inked a similar deal with EV Connect, Greenlots, and SemaConnect. ChargePoint also is partnering with Greenlots, which was acquired by petroleum giant Royal Dutch Shell earlier this year.
