The California Air Resources Board (CARB) expects the number of fuel cell-powered vehicles registered in the state will surge to 23,600 units in 2021 from 4,800 through May of this year and reach 47,200 by 2024.
In its fifth annual report on fuel cell vehicles, CARB notes the number of public hydrogen refueling stations recently increased from 29 to 36 locations in California. In January, California Governor Jerry Brown issued an executive order calling for 200 stations by 2025.
Brown previously has targeted 5 million zero-emission vehicles in California by 2030. This includes 1 million fuel cell cars.
