Robert Bosch GmbH says it will continue to develop its own sensor technology for autonomous vehicles rather than buy it.
Board member Dirk Hoheisel, who oversees Bosch’s mobility services, tells reporters the mega-supplier is “investing a lot of money” in video technology and plans to maintain that strategy.
CEO Volkmar Denner notes that Bosch competes with Mobileye NV, which was acquired earlier this week by Intel Corp., in cameras, chips and software for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). At the same time, Bosch has partnered with Intel. Denner says his company will pursue possible collaborations with both companies in the future.
Bosch accounts for the bulk of the global ADAS sensor market, according to Reuters. The company has partnerships with tech companies such as Amazon, General Electric, IBM, Nvidia and SAP.
