The fuel cell model will be unveiled at next month’s Frankfurt auto show, according to BMWBlog.com, which doesn’t cite its sources. The online enthusiast site says the hydrogen-fueled vehicle will be built alongside the traditionally powered X7, which is due in 2019, at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, S.C., plant. A plug-in hybrid variant also is said to be in development.
In 2015, BMW showed a fuel cell-powered concept version of its i8 electric supercar. The company reportedly also has tested a fuel cell version of its 5 Series Gran Turismo model.
