BASF, Toda Kogyo to Form Battery Cathode Venture

BASF SE and Toda Kogyo Corp. are in talks to set up a venture in Japan to make cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries.
BASF is the world's largest chemical company. Toda Kogyo specializes in making metal oxides and battery cathode materials.
Their new venture will combine existing operations of the two companies to make nickel cobalt aluminum oxide, lithium manganese oxide and nickel cobalt manganese. The partnership will supply makers of lithium-ion batteries used in vehicles, consumer products and stationary storage systems.
