BASF SE has opened a small research lab for thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) in Wyandotte, Mich.
BASF SE has opened a small research lab for thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) in Wyandotte, Mich.
The facility which has opened with a staff of five chemists, product developers and materials scientists will focus on modifying manufacturing conditions to tailor such TPU properties as stiffness, elasticity, transparency and UV stability for customers in the automotive, construction, leisure and sports industries.
Thermoplastic polyurethanes have relatively high tensile strength and cold-weather flexibility. They also display excellent resistance to abrasion, oil, grease and ozone.
