BASF SE is forming a subsidiary, BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH, to focus on 3D manufacturing applications.

Launching on Sept. 1, the new company will be located within BASF’s InnovationLab site in Heidelberg, Germany, where it will take over and expand some existing resources there of BASF’s Deutsche Nanoschicht GmbH unit. Initially about 30 engineers and technical experts will be housed in the facility, many of whom are currently working for BASF in 3D printing.

BASF 3D will work with researchers and application engineers from BASF and external partners, such as universities and potential customers. It will target automotive (airless tire pictured), aerospace and consumer goods.
