Russia’s OAO AvotoVAZ says it has completed pilot production and initial certification testing of its new Lada Xray crossover model. The vehicle rides on Renault-Nissan’s B0 platform, which also underpins the Nissan Juke and NV200.
AvotoVAZ plans to begin volume production at its Togliatti, Russia, plant in mid-December and launch domestic sales in February. Sales in several eastern European countries are expected to begin later next year.
The Xray will include more than 500 Lada-specific parts, including an X-shaped grille and heavily sculpted side panels. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions are planned.
The Xray also will feature appointments not offered on other Lada vehicles, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB ports, parking sensors, and power doors and locks. A touchscreen infotainment system also may be available on high-end trim levels, according to media reports.
Engine choices will include two 1.6-liter 4-cylinder mills (106- and 114-hp) and a 123-hp 1.8-liter four-banger. Both manual and automated-manual transmissions will be available.
The Togliatti facility also builds the Lada Largus, Nissan Almera and Renault Logan cars.
