Audi Factory in Germany Idled by Strike in Hungary

Audi AG hopes to resume operations at its assembly plant in Ingolstadt, Germany, tomorrow after a strike in Hungary late last week caused a parts shortage.
Ingolstadt builds Audi’s A3, A4 and A5 cars and the Q2 mini-crossover vehicles. But production was halted after workers at Audi’s factory in Gyor, Hungary, walked out on Jan. 24 in a wage dispute. The Gyor complex supplies Ingolstadt with engines and other components.
Reuters says Audi has offered the workers in Hungary a 20% pay hike over two years. Unionized workers are demanding an immediate 18% increase with more in the future.
Hourly employees want to reach closer parity with Audi auto workers in Slovakia and Poland, who they claim currently collect 28% and 39% more pay, respectively. The workers have rejected seven offers from Audi to date, according to Reuters.
