Volkswagen AG’s Audi unit says it will introduce three electric models by 2020 and electrify other vehicles in subsequent years.
The company didn’t provide any details about the new EVs but says it has trained more than 6,000 workers in high-voltage technology. Last summer CEO Rupert Stadler said the company was working on several new EVs and expected to derive as much as 30% of its sales from electrified vehicles by 2025.
Audi also has created a new company to develop autonomous vehicle technologies and mobility services for smart cities. Based in Munich, the new Autonomous Intelligent Driving GmbH subsidiary will take the lead on advanced mobility and autonomous vehicle systems for all VW brands. Audi says it also is open to forming strategic partnerships in this area.
Audi previously has said it will launch a “traffic-jam” self-driving system on the 2018 model A8 sedan.
