Volkswagen AG is launching a new feature in the U.K. to help direct motorists to the region’s best-rated driving roads.
The carmaker is teaming with Alphabet Inc.’s Waze navigation unit on the app, which initially will be limited to GTI performance versions of VW’s Golf, Polo and Up! hatchback models. Known as GTI Superdrives, the feature maps 75 favorite U.K. roads.
Drivers will be notified when they’re within a 12-mile radius of a Superdrive road. They can get turn-by-turn directions to the beginning of the road by tapping a GTI icon on their phone or car’s touchscreen.
The roads were selected by Waze based on data collected from its base navigation app and input from users. Waze says the Superdrives are defined by their “engaging” corners, sparse traffic, minimal accidents, surrounding scenery and proximity to other points of interest.
Based on Waze’s analysis, the top-rated road is the B3135 from Cheddar to Ashwick in southwest England.
