Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo self-driving car unit has opened a subsidiary in China, according to multiple media reports.
Shanghai-based Huimo Business Consulting Co. was registered in May with Waymo as its only shareholder, according to a filing with China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System. News about the company wasn’t reported until this week.
Huimo is capitalized at 3.5 million yuan ($441,000) and will focus on design and testing of self-driving vehicle technologies, supply chain and business consulting. Waymo chief counsel Kevin Vosen is listed as Huimo’s chairman, while Waymo CEO John Krafcik will be a director of the new company.
Waymo declined to provide any additional information. Last week, Alphabet confirmed it is evaluating the potential to relaunch its Google search engine in China after exiting that market nearly a decade ago.RELATED CONTENT
