Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo autonomous car unit and ride-hailing service Lyft Inc. have agreed to jointly test self-driving vehicles. Details were not announced.

The non-exclusive alliance is expected to help both companies accelerate development of the software and technologies required for autonomous cars.

Lyft is already involved in a similar collaboration with Cruise Automation Inc., which was acquired a year ago by General Motors Co. And Waymo is launching a test in Phoenix with 500 Chrysler Pacifica minivans equipped for autonomous driving.

News of the new Lyft-Waymo partnership comes as Waymo pursues a lawsuit against Lyft rival Uber Technologies Inc. The complaint claims Uber is using stolen Waymo know-how in its own robotic car program.
